FULTON SHEEN CROWNED BLESSED, 50K PILGRIMS FLOOD ST. LOUIS | HUMAN EVENTS DAILY

FULTON SHEEN CROWNED BLESSED, 50K PILGRIMS FLOOD ST. LOUIS | HUMAN EVENTS DAILY

Published 1 week, 2 days ago
Description
Today in St. Louis, Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen is beatified and named Blessed — one step from sainthood. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presides at 2 p.m. CT at The Dome at America's Center as tens of thousands pack the arena.

The Vatican recognized the 2010 case of James Fulton Engstrom of Peoria: born without a pulse for 61 minutes, revived after his family prayed for Sheen's intercession. The now-teen presents a relic at the Mass. A second miracle would be needed for canonization.

Emmy-winning host of Life Is Worth Living, Sheen reached tens of millions on radio and TV, preached the daily Holy Hour, and warned against "false compassion." After a six-year delay over his Rochester years, the Vatican cleared the cause; Pope Leo XIV — who watched Sheen growing up in Chicago — approved the ceremony.

Roughly 50,000 tickets issued. Dozens of bishops, hundreds of priests, pilgrims from 48 states and 12 countries. EWTN carries live coverage. Jack Posobiec breaks down why America's original media bishop still matters.

Will Blessed Fulton Sheen's warning about false compassion land harder now than it did on 1950s television?
