Lattie Coor: ASU’s Transformation Architect | Mesa News
Description
Lattie F. Coor, the transformative former president of Arizona State University who passed away at 89, reshaped ASU from a football-focused school into a powerhouse research institution. Under his 12-year leadership, research funding jumped 150%, the endowment soared to $250 million, and the Polytechnic campus was added. He quadrupled honors college enrollment and oversaw a $500 million capital campaign. Even after retiring, he remained deeply involved in education, teaching at ASU and leading the Center for the Future of Arizona until his death. In 2004, a signature glass classroom building on campus was named in his honor, and in 2006, he was awarded Valley Leadership’s Man of the Year.
