Listen for the Voice of Beauty

"The voice of beauty speaks softly; it creeps only into the most fully awakened souls." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche described himself as an atheist.  I, like the Apostle Paul believe that the entire cosmos lives and moves and has its being in God(Acts 17:28). Therefore, I believe the voice of God calls to everyone. The voice Nietzsche describes as the voice of beauty, I understand to be the voice of God.

In order to hear that voice, we must set aside the time and space. It helps to go to a quiet place, to our secret prayer closet as the Gospel of Matthew describes it (Matthew 6:6). What’s even more important is that we have to learn to quiet our hearts, and quiet our minds.

It helps if we learn to center our breathing. The writers of Genesis envision the breath of God sweeping across creation and bringing the dust to life (Gen. 1:2 and 2:7). The Gospel of John visualizes Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit into his Disciples (John 20:22).

As we center and quiet ourselves, we can feel God’s presence. We experience beauty. We hear God’s voice. We feel God’s love.

Listen for the voice of beauty.
