Do We Have Any Room for God in Our Lives?

“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place in the guest room.” - Luke 2:7

I first heard a version of this reflection preached by Father Nelson at The Church of the Resurrection back in Omaha, Nebraska some thirty plus years ago.

He pointed out that the inn keepers didn’t have anything against Mary, Joseph, or Baby Jesus. They weren’t angry, spiteful, resentful or in any way being disrespectful. Their inn was simply full and they had no more room.

In this story, the holy family represents the presence of God. How many of gotten so busy with our duties and responsibilities, our passions and interests that we have simply have left no time or space for spiritual connections and experiences.

The good news is that God still loves us. God still shows up. And we get to experience as much of God’s peace and possibility and purpose as we make room for.

Do we have any room for God in our lives?
