Health and social inequities are huge issues in Australia, between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. The public is often shown the ‘what’ of the issue, in the form of statistics and facts, but very rarely the ‘why’, and the root of the issue. We join Professor Maggie Walter to discuss this, as well as exploring her own personal journey as an Aboriginal woman studying higher education in Australia.
That’s What I Call Science acknowledges the postponement of NAIDOC Week 2020 by the National NAIDOC Committee to November 2020. TWICS has chosen to go ahead with our celebrations and use this week to increase and highlight Indigenous visibility on the show. We will also be celebrating NAIDOC Week in November, and we acknowledge the extensive contributions made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to STEMM fields.
