Fandom of Fandoms: Being a Fan of Cosplayers

Fandom of Fandoms: Being a Fan of Cosplayers

Season 4 Episode 39

Another issue with Cosplay – we begin to obsess not just over the actors and characters, but over the people portraying them – we spend more time congratulating and paying compliments to total strangers – for YEARS – on the internet, than we do our own friends and loved ones.  We spend more time trying to gain access to a total stranger, whom we know almost nothing about (because let’s face it…IG and TikTok tell us nothing about people besides they have quite a bit of free time or extra energy) than we do focusing on what we need to do to make ourselves successful and help others around us

Would you pay to see (or maybe you do) a self-created non-celebrity because you follow them and that somehow makes them famous?  Social media is very dangerous from this standpoint – it’s hard to tell who is out there actually in Entertainment, and who is stealing reach from entertainers to make themselves look like they’re entertainers, but they do not have the background.
