Episode 134 Published 3 years, 7 months ago
Description
Europe is renowned for palaces and castles but perhaps we don't immediately think we'll find them in Italy. That's because they're hiding in plain sight near the royal city of Turin in the northern region of Piedmont. Here they wrote the book on building  stunning royal abodes complete with chandeliers, sweeping staircases and opulent furnishings. Not to mention that they've survived wars and revolutions relatively unscathed.

Hear local guide Carlotta Muti tell the stories of the Italian royal family and their architectural prowess as she reveals just some of the beautiful properties you can step inside when you visit the royal region of Piedmont.

Tour the Piedmont region - known for luxury wine, truffles, chocolate and of course palaces -  with Untold Italy in October and May. On our small group tour you'll discover the rich history of this lesser-known region and its delicious and decadent cuisine > Piedmont tour details
