We are back with a third episode with Dr. Daniel Linhares and Dr. Giovani Trevisan to discuss what they recommend in times of a PRRSV outbreak and how best to respond. PRRSV can seriously impact the economic and welfare status of your farm, and handling those issues is essential for maximizing productivity and income. Dr. Daniel Linhares is the Roy Schultz Professor of Swine Population Medicine, at the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine Department of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Linhares commits approximately 55% of his time to research, 30% to professional practice and outreach, 10% to teaching, and 5% to institutional service. He currently conducts research with post-DVM graduate students on “Development and evaluation of strategies to improve health and productivity of swine populations under field conditions”, and in 2019 won the Early Career Achievement in Research Award at Iowa State University.

Dr. Giovani Trevisan obtained his DVM diploma in the veterinary faculty of Lages, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil in 2009, and got an MBA in business enterprises also in Brazil in 2013. From 2010 to 2017, he worked as a full-time veterinarian for JBS foods with an emphasis on swine animal health and production management. From 2017 to 2020, he did his Ph.D. at Iowa State University under the supervision of Dr. Linhares. Since 2020, he is a post-doc research associate in the Veterinary Diagnostic and Population Animal Medicine Center at Iowa State University. He focuses on the applied use of veterinary diagnostic test results and epidemiology concepts to make informed decisions for disease prevention and control.
