Barbara Hand Clow, astrologer, channeler, and New Age entrepreneur, was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on February 14, 1943, the daughter of Eugene A. and Catherine Wallace Hand. She attended the University of Michigan and received her M.A. from the Institute for Culture and Creation in Chicago. In 1974 she married publisher Gerald Cudahy Clow. She also studied astrology and became aligned with the New Age Movement. Her interest excelled in the 1980s when she became the executive vice president of Bear & Company, a prominent New Age publishing house, and began to write out of her own perspectives on various occult topics.
