French Open Catch-Up: Round 1 - ATP stars progress, WTA Top 10 in tatters and Tsonga goes down swinging

Season 1 Episode 262

In the latest episode of The Passing Shot, the tennis podcast by fans, Joel and Kim roundup the main action from Round One of the French Open.

From defending champion Barbora Krejickova being upset by local hope Diane Parry, the in form Ons Jabeur losing in the first match of the tournament, and Naomi Osaka succumbing to Amanda Anisimova for a second Slam in a row, several women’s seeds have fallen already thus opening up part of the draw significantly.

On the men’s side, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga finally takes a bow and retires from professional tennis with a 4 set loss to Casper Ruud, Hugo Gaston delights the local crowd with a topsy turvy 5 set win over Alex de Minaur and Denis Shapovalov falls to Holger Rune in straight sets.

Joel and Kim also discuss the news and fallout from the ATP and WTA’s bold decision to remove ranking points from Wimbledon, in response to their ban on Russian and Belarussian players.

They also reveal their Collect A Set picks, which have already gone astray with Jabeur’s early exit!
