Spirituality and Architecture: Harmony and Balance

Another special feature commemorating the Month of Ramadan, at the midway point, we ask the question of "mosque architecture" in light of "domestic architecture"; has mosque architecture lost the sense of harmony and balance to achieve a sense of place for spirituality, that intimate spaces in domestic or vernacular architecture embody? The idea is to create a sense of intimacy (sensorial experience) to create that harmony and balance in the architecture so that we can find that feeling of peace when in a mosque. Is that possible? I refer to Ismail R. Al-Faruqi's "The Cultural Atlas of Islam" as a reference, in one of the articles mentioned. Happy Ramadhan!
