Sean Magee a leading Racing historian and author of Arkle, The Story of the World’s Greatest Steeplechaser analyses the 1964 Cheltenham Gold Cup clash between Arkle and Mill House. Arkle, the then pretender taking on the reigning champion Mill House. In probably the most famous of all Gold Cups at Prestbury Park, Sean sets the scene of the Anglo Irish battle before discussing the race and the merits of these two legendary steeplechasers. In addition he reflects on the career of Arkle’s stablemate, Flyingbolt, who also won at the 1964 Cheltenham Festival. Could Flyingbolt have been as good as Sean’s beloved Arkle?
