Episode 126
Jason Daugherty became quite a podcast sensation when his life story, as told to Josh Michaelis, aired in September of last year with a subsequent episode appearing in February. I immediately identified Daugherty as a consummate coon hunter and enjoyed the episodes but they left several questions unanswered for me. I ran my laundry list of questions by Jason and he was willing and ready for the opportunity to, in his words, ‘talk dogs’ and nothing could have pleased me more.
In this episode the dog talk includes the nuances of professional handling from the owner's and handler’s perspectives. It includes discussions on the types of hounds required to excel in competition today, and reveals the attributes of good handlers that separate them from the also rans. And, these topics only scratch the surface.
With two PKC National Championship Final Four appearances, including first and second-place finishes, and two Super Stakes Championship winner’s notches on his competition belt, Daugherty’s resume more than qualifies him to be our point of reference for these and other timely, competition-related topics. If winning at the highest levels is on your radar, or you just want an inside look at the way the system works, you will immensely enjoy this episode.
