The Dead Church of Sardis — How a Living God's Church Can Die | Faith By Reason

Season 1 Episode 11 Published 5 years, 8 months ago
Description
Sardis is the Dead Church.  How could a Church of the Living God be dead?  In His letter to the Church at Sardis, Jesus told them that they had a “name” (or reputation) that indicated life, but that was a facade covering up the fact that they were actually dead! In order to understand what this means, we need to understand the Biblical definitions of “life” and “death”.  Life is the ability to repair and grow.  Death is the inability (or unwillingness) to repair and grow.  This is true physically AND spiritually. Sardis had a tenuous hold on Salvation theology, which gave it the appearance of a living church, but it did not do the things needed to repair and grow.  They did not repent, they were not watchful, and they were stagnant. This week’s episode is part 1 of our study of Sardis, where we examine that church from a historical, congregational, and personal perspective.
