Wisdom for the Heart - Warning: Two Strikes and You're Out Part 2 (Titus 3:10–11)
Description
Church division rarely starts with a big public blowup. It starts with a slanted perspective, a confident voice, and a steady drip of “you won’t believe what I heard” that slowly recruits people into sides. We dig into Paul’s instructions in Titus 3 for the moment when conflict stops being a misunderstanding and becomes a pattern that threatens the health of the whole congregation.
We talk about the three markers Paul uses for a factious person and why “perverted” here is not about scandalous rumors but about a mind turned around. From there we get practical about what a real warning looks like: not a drive-by rebuke, but a deliberate conversation that puts truth to mind, exposes the error, and names the consequences. When there is still no repentance after the second warning, we explain why removal is sometimes the only way to protect the flock and why that decision is both emotional and necessary.
We also widen the lens beyond leaders. Colossians calls every believer to teach and admonish one another, which means the congregation often sees the smoke before the pastors see the fire. We discuss how proactive membership looks in real life: prayer, honest counsel, offering the benefit of the doubt, and stepping in early to keep a campfire from becoming a forest fire. Along the way, John Wesley’s membership questions challenge our comfort, and the “Fall At Risk” metaphor brings the tone back to humility and shared weakness.
If you care about church unity, biblical conflict resolution, church discipline, and spiritual leadership with both compassion and conviction, this conversation will stretch you. Subscribe for more, share this with a friend who leads or serves in a church, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway or question.
