David Harewood: I Was Told to Get the Fuck Out of My Own Country!
Description
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a little bit of a crush on this week’s guest. The VERY handsome David Harewood! He’s one of Britain’s finest actors, but what I wasn’t expecting was quite how much this conversation would move me.
David speaks so openly about experiencing psychosis, being sectioned and the devastating impact that racism throughout his life has had on his mental health. I was incredibly moved by his honesty, strength and courage in sharing such difficult experiences, but also by the hope he has for a new generation of Black talent who he hopes won't have to face the same struggles.
We also talk about the heartbreaking loss of his best friend Lui, the realities of being a working actor and some of the rockiest moments in his career - from his first day on Homeland to the rather bizarre time he spent half a day working as a bailiff!!
And here's something I genuinely couldn't believe… David is currently starring in Channel 4's new crime drama Pierre, and it's his FIRST EVER leading role. How is that possible?!
Such an honest, moving and surprisingly uplifting chat. Thank you so much, David, for joining me!
