Exploring Chakra Dancing with Sarah
Description
When did you last dance just because it felt good?
This week Sarah is joined by another Sarah, Sarah Day, a chakra dancing facilitator from Warwickshire, to explore a joyful, free-movement way of working with the seven chakras.
Sarah Day takes us through the chakras one by one, from the grounded stamping and shaking of the root to the ribbons and mirror work of the third eye and the stillness of the crown. She explains what each chakra is said to represent, how the music and movement change as you travel up through them, and why she asks people to dance at their own pace with no steps to learn and no judgment. They also talk about how she lost her love of dancing in her twenties, how finding it again changed her relationship with exercise, and why adult life doesn't have to be quite so serious.
In this episode you'll hear about:
- What chakras are, and the idea behind chakra dancing, created by Lizzie Clifford
- How a chakra dancing session works, from grounding at the root to the crown chakra
- What each chakra is associated with: colour, theme, music and movement
- Why shaking, stamping and screaming into a "chakra tree" can feel so freeing
- A heart chakra moment that left Sarah Day overwhelmed by how far she'd come in a year
- Why so many of us stop dancing, and the pressure to "get it right" or have a drink first
- How one song can change your mood, even without a class
- Moving from exercise as a chore to movement that feels like coming home
- The value of talking things through with a coach, therapist or friend
- How to try a class online or in person, including a free first online session

As always, remember there's many paths to wellness, and some of them are taken with a little dance.

This podcast is here to inform and inspire curiosity, not to tell you what to do. Everything discussed reflects the personal experiences of our guests, and Sarah doesn't personally endorse any particular practice or approach. You're always in the driving seat — it's entirely your choice whether to explore further. Where guests offer the chance to try things for yourself, you'll find links below. And as always, nothing here is suggested as a substitute for personalised advice from your own healthcare professionals.
