1030. Develop a fear practice
Description
Fear isn't going anywhere. It's been with you your entire life, and it'll be with you until the end. So why spend your life trying to escape something you can learn to use?
In this episode, I'm talking about developing a fear practice. Inspired by Steven Kotler's The Art of Impossible, we explore why successful people aren't just running away from something—they're running toward something better.
I'll walk you through two ways to train yourself to face fear: flooding and systematic desensitization. One teaches you to do the thing without negotiating. The other teaches you to sit in the discomfort long enough to develop the competence, confidence, and courage to keep going.
After 28 years in sales, I still get nervous. I still don't like rejection. But I've learned that I don't have to eliminate fear to move forward.
This week, I challenge you to stop avoiding the conversations, decisions, and opportunities that make you uncomfortable. Develop a fear practice. Do the thing anyway.
Fear is fuel. You can let it eat you alive, or you can use it to move your life forward.
Keep it simple. Keep it moving. Never settle. Stay tough.
