Corey Holcomb Was Right — Today's Comedians Don't Have Real Jokes
Description
A comedian pulls up to the Big Pheez Podcast with a hot take on the state of stand-up: he agrees with Corey Holcomb — too many of today's comics lean on crowd work instead of carrying an arsenal of written, well-prepared jokes.
He gives Country Wayne flowers for actually writing jokes and testing them on stage, calls Ryan Davis a genius for taking the old-school model, and cites Dave Chappelle as proof the greats don't need crowd work. He also questions whether Mojo Brooks — who just got a comedy special off popularity — really has jokes, and shouts out DC's own Eddie B, Red Grant, Joe Clair, Mike Brooks and Tony Woods as writers who know how to put jokes together.
Is crowd work killing stand-up, or is it the new game? Drop your take.
