Back to Episodes'Dexter Resurrection' S2 Premiere: Midlife Crisis, Ghostly Consciences, and the New Five Borough Killer
Description
In this episode of Need Some Introduction, we break down the season two premiere of Dexter Resurrection (effectively more Dexter) with Sona, plus a detour into an Elizabeth Holmes documentary the host saw and Sona is curious about, described as a three-hour, compelling, self-reflexive examination of complicity, interpretation, and filmmaking (with Nathan Fielder), with Holmes’s husband Billy framed as a major villain. We recap season one: Angel tracked Dexter to NYC and died; Dexter killed Peter Dinklage’s Prader and most of Prader’s serial-killer club; Uma Thurman’s Charlie is expected to return; Dexter still lives with Blessing’s family and Harrison is in the police academy. The premiere jumps three years ahead, opens with Dexter’s Angel fantasy, montages him finishing Prader’s files, reintroduces the escaped Rapunzel Killer (who Dexter kills in a suicide-like setup), introduces Dan Stevens’s “Five Borough Killer,” and advances the New York Ripper plot with Brian Cox’s wheelchair-bound suspect. We discuss the show’s aging/midlife themes, crowded “ghost” advisers (Angel and Harry), needle-drop-heavy soundtrack, Harrison’s new haircut and dating, Quinn’s return, and how a two-episode premiere might have helped.
