Stronger together with Firefighter Ryan Daly and EMT Felicia Cambi of the FDNY Counseling Service Unit
Description
First responders are frequently exposed to stressful and traumatic situations, which research shows can lead to mental and emotional challenges. However, studies also show that appropriate support can help reduce the effects of the resulting stress, anxiety and trauma.
The FDNY has seen time and again how important mental health is for its members. When members focus on their well-being it can improve both their emotional and physical health at work and at home.
In the episode, host Lt. Drew Kane, Deputy Director of the FDNY Counseling Service Unit, welcomes two members that work with the Unit: Firefighter Ryan Daly and EMT Felicia Cambi. Together the team discusses the efficacy of counseling and peer support. They also examine how it was put the test in the wake of the Happy Land Social Club fire, September 11th, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
