Episode Details

I (Patti Hunt) catch up with RVers, content creators, and international tour leaders Michelle and Brian Coleman of Cruisin’ with the Colemans. Returning after their summer adventures across Italy, Spain, and England, the Colemans unpack how to break away from crowded tourist hubs and discover authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences. They share insider strategies for finding local gems like Greccio and Samos, offer practical advice on balancing structure with flexibility, and discuss how to navigate travel boundaries with your partner. Whether you are planning your first trip abroad or looking to embrace a slower, richer travel pace, this conversation offers inspiring ideas to help you step off the main path.

Key Takeaways

• Locating Hidden Gems Beyond Tourist Hotspots: Discover how searching niche hashtags like pilgrimage or using tools like Atlas Obscura can reveal authentic local destinations that standard travel guides miss.
• The Power of Slow Travel: Learn why slowing down and embracing Italian concepts like dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing) and passeggiata (the evening stroll) creates deeper travel memories than rushing through itineraries.
• Managing Partner Dynamics and Travel Boundaries: Understand the importance of setting clear daily expectations, respecting individual limits, and planning downtime to keep trips enjoyable for both travelers.
• Preparing for Unpredictable Elements: Gain practical strategies for managing weather shifts, itinerary changes, and unexpected mishaps by building flexibility and plan B options into every trip.
