Mega Edition: The Dentist Who Murdered His Wife With Arsenic (10/28/26)
Published 8 hours ago
Description
James Toliver Craig was a Colorado dentist who was convicted of murdering his wife, Angela Craig, the 43-year-old mother of their six children, after secretly poisoning her over approximately ten days in March 2023. Prosecutors established that Craig purchased arsenic and cyanide and used poisonous substances, including a chemical commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops, in repeated attempts to kill his wife. Investigators determined that he had been contaminating her protein shakes and other substances she consumed, causing recurring episodes of dizziness, vomiting and severe illness that initially baffled medical professionals. When those attempts failed, prosecutors said Craig administered a fatal dose of cyanide while Angela was hospitalized, leading to her death on March 18, 2023. The investigation accelerated after Craig's dental business partner discovered that he had ordered potassium cyanide for the practice, despite there being no legitimate dental purpose for the chemical. Investigators subsequently uncovered incriminating internet searches, suspicious purchases, evidence of an extramarital affair and communications that helped establish a deliberate murder plot. Prosecutors argued that Craig wanted to escape his marriage without the financial and personal consequences of divorce.
Craig's criminal conduct continued after his arrest, when authorities uncovered attempts to manipulate evidence, interfere with witnesses and obstruct the prosecution. While awaiting trial, he solicited other individuals to fabricate evidence and provide false testimony intended to support a claim that Angela had committed suicide or had asked him to help end her life. Prosecutors also established that Craig attempted to arrange the murder of the lead detective investigating his wife's death, an extraordinary escalation that resulted in an additional solicitation charge. He even attempted to persuade one of his daughters to create a fabricated video depicting Angela saying she wanted to be poisoned. On July 30, 2025, an Arapahoe County jury found Craig guilty of first-degree murder and five additional offenses involving solicitation to commit murder, evidence tampering and perjury. Judge Shay Whitaker sentenced him to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, bringing the prosecution to a close after a trial that exposed not only the calculated poisoning of his wife but also an extensive campaign to undermine the criminal investigation and escape responsibility for her murder.
