The DeFeo Murders and the Amityville Horror, Part 1 - Louise DeFeo's Last Warning

Published 6 days, 2 hours ago
Description

Ronald "Butch" DeFeo Jr. killed six members of his own family at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, on November 13, 1974. His mother Louise, his father Ronald Sr., and his four siblings were each shot in their beds with a .35-caliber Marlin rifle. No neighbor reported hearing any of the eight shots.

The family's cleaning woman, Linnea Nonnewitz, had worked in that house for five years. Louise DeFeo talked to her. Louise wanted to die, Linnea said afterward. And one day Louise told her this: "I'm preparing you. Something so tragic is going to happen."

This is Part One of a three-part documentary on the DeFeo murders and the Amityville Horror. It covers June 1965 through November 13, 1974 — the house, the family, the nine years of violence under that roof, and the night Butch took the Marlin from his closet.
