HOUR 3 - Trench investment, Todd Haley, Debrief

Published 6 days, 10 hours ago
Description
Have the Steelers finally gotten the return on investment they were looking for in the trenches? Since Omar Khan and Andy Weidl took over in the front office, the team spent multiple 1st round or other high picks on big boys on both sides. The Steelers run defense has been great in the absence of Derrick Harmon, who was the lynchpin to that operation last season. Zach Frazier has also emerged as an elite center in the game. Former Steelers OC Todd Haley joined the show. Todd said despite only 16 points, the Steelers did all they needed to win in Paris. He liked the team handing the football off 30 times and setting the tone in the turnover battle. Todd feels like the offensive line found a rhythm. Todd said consistent conversions on 3rd & short is a back-breaker to an opposing defense. Todd talked about directing players to certain sides of the formation and how Antonio Brown would react if he wasn’t on the weak side of a defense. Todd reiterated that you have to get the football in the hands of your best players. Todd, again, pushed for the Steelers to trade for Brian Thomas Jr. before a team like the Chiefs does it. Todd credited Mike Munchak for the creation of Al Villanueva and thinks there is no way his career is as successful without the great OL coach. A funny story about Lev Bell and Munchak. Todd reacted to a comment made about his relationship with Kurt Warner on Sunday morning and he backed it up with how much he hung out with Kurt outside of the stadium and facility. Todd talked about coaching Warner in the twilight of his career. We finally got the answer to Todd saying ‘I have an opinion on that,’ which has been a soundbite we have played on the show for years. Todd said he ‘begged’ for the Browns to take Saquon Barkley 1st overall back in 2018 and Josh Allen 4th. Almost a decade later, they probably should have listened. Donny Football Debrief – Jay Z was named the Super Bowl halftime show about a week after he nominated himself to do it. Thoughts?
