Halloween Week: The Lady of Raynham Hall
Published 5 days, 18 hours ago
Description
For centuries, the grand halls of Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England, have been haunted by stories of a mysterious woman dressed in brown, believed to be the restless spirit of Lady Dorothy Walpole.
Witnesses have described terrifying encounters with the apparition, including her glowing face, hollow eye sockets, and a sinister grin that once drove a frightened visitor to fire his pistol directly at her. In 1936, the haunting gained worldwide attention when two photographers reportedly captured the ghostly figure descending the mansion's grand staircase, producing one of the most famous paranormal photographs in history.
Despite decades of investigation and countless attempts to explain the image, the legend of the Brown Lady endures, along with the chilling possibility that Dorothy Walpole still wanders the halls of her former home.
