Description
The Cobb County Police Department is actively investigating this tragic incident. Here are the key details that have emerged from the initial investigation.

The victims were discovered in a parked vehicle near the tree line at the Milford Baptist Church parking lot, situated at 1030 Milford Church Road SW in unincorporated Marietta.

Police arrived at the scene around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a call reporting a woman with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. This occurred approximately 15 minutes before the church's Sunday services were set to begin.

Authorities have indicated there are no active suspects being sought, and investigators have noted there is no apparent threat to the community. This suggests investigators believe the incident was isolated to the vehicle itself, rather than a random act of violence from an outside individual or a drive-by shooting.

Although family members have been notified, authorities have not yet released the official identities of the mother and child to the public. Sources have confirmed the daughter was 2 years old. Police have also stated there is currently no evidence suggesting the family had any connection to the church. The specific circumstances and motivation behind the shooting have not yet been disclosed by authorities.

Investigators have confirmed that both the mother and her 2-year-old daughter sustained gunshot wounds that occurred "inside the vehicle."

There is no evidence indicating the mother and child were affiliated with Milford Baptist Church. Their vehicle was simply parked near the tree line of the lot.

Since the case remains an active investigation being handled by the department's Crimes Against Persons and Major Crimes Units, police have not yet formally classified the incident or disclosed the victims' identities.

The Major Crimes Unit of the Cobb County Police Department requests that individuals possessing information pertaining to this incident contact them at 770-499-3945 (Case Number: 26069291).
