When Healing Becomes a Trap: Are You Addicted to Fixing Yourself? | Elias Kanakri
Description
Another book. Another session. Another layer to heal. At what point do we stop preparing to live and begin trusting ourselves enough to live?
The search for healing often begins with something deeply human: a desire to feel better, understand ourselves, and move beyond experiences that continue to hurt. Finding a teacher, a practice, or a new perspective can open possibilities we couldn’t see before.
But what happens when that search becomes a way of life? When every difficult emotion suggests another hidden block, every setback becomes evidence of unfinished work, and feeling ready always seems to depend on one more breakthrough?
In this episode of Rooted & Wild, Henry Hawk welcomes back international ThetaHealing® teacher and practitioner Elias Kanakri to explore a challenging question from within the healing world: If self-help is helping us become more capable of helping ourselves, shouldn’t its success mean we eventually need it less?
As someone who both teaches and continues to navigate his own inner work, Elias brings a personal perspective to the relationship between healing, independence, and self-trust. His questions emerge from years of working with others, alongside experiences that challenged his own understanding of what it means to help yourself.
Together, Henry and Elias examine the possibility that a sincere commitment to growth can become entangled with the belief that we’re never quite enough. When we’re accustomed to searching for what needs healing, can we recognize what’s already working? Can we receive support while developing confidence in our own judgment? And how do we know when an insight is helping us participate more fully in life?
The conversation also turns toward the wellness industry itself. Courses, sessions, and communities can offer meaningful support, yet an industry that depends on continued participation faces an interesting tension: what does success look like when the goal is greater independence? What responsibilities do practitioners and teachers have in helping people recognize their own capacity?
These questions invite a closer look at what we’re seeking, how we recognize progress, and whether our practices are helping us build a life we can actually inhabit.
In this episode, we explore:
• When personal growth becomes an endless search for something wrong
• The relationship between healing, identity, and self-worth
• How seeking guidance can become a habit of seeking permission
• The difference between receiving support and depending on outside answers
• Why Elias believes self-help should help people become more independent
• The tension between empowerment and continued need in the wellness industry
• What progress might look like beyond another course or breakthrough
• Making room for self-trust, ordinary challenges, and the experience of living
For anyone who has ever felt exhausted by the effort to become a better version of themselves, this episode offers space to pause and reconsider the destination.
What would change if you could keep growing while also allowing yourself to be enough today?
