S5: Bonus Episode: Seeing the Ramayana Movie? The Whole Epic Explained for Kids
Description
Seeing the new Ramayana movie? Start here. Neev and his mom race through the whole Ramayana in about 12 minutes, with no movie spoilers.
Prince Rama breaks Shiva's mighty bow and marries Sita. Queen Kaikeyi's two wishes send him into the forest for fourteen years, and his brother Bharata rules with Rama's sandals on the throne. A golden deer tricks Rama, and Ravana, the ten-headed king of Lanka, carries Sita away while the brave old vulture Jatayu fights to stop him. Along the way, find out how Ravana got his ten heads and why Shiva once trapped him under Mount Kailash.
Then Hanuman leaps across the ocean and sets Lanka ablaze, the vanaras build a bridge of floating stones, Ravana falls, and Ayodhya lights its lamps for the very first Diwali.
Perfect for kids 5 to 12 before the movie, and for anyone new to the story. Want Ravana's whole backstory? Listen to Season 1, Episode 13, Ravana's Rise. Every scene, in story order, is at mythicalmasalapodcast.com/stories/ramayana.
