After months of documenting the work nobody could see, Tim receives an unexpected invitation to perform at the Comedy Mothership open mic. He is placed in the final spot with the booker watching, surrounded by uncertainty about which version of himself will walk onto the stage.
Tim plays the complete set, breaks down the writing and performance, and explains why it was great without pretending it was killer. The laughs, the response from Mothership Comedians, and the way he handled the pressure provided something more valuable than celebration: proof that the work is producing results.
He also reflects on living in his car for 1,766 days, waiting to enter his apartment for the first time, and finally having the private space to begin rebuilding his life. Eleven months later, he is hosting a Comedy room, performing at the Mothership, preparing for the Funniest Person in Austin quarterfinals, and becoming the Comedian he once feared sobriety had taken away.
He may not know whether this version will win championships, but now he knows it belongs in the league.
Time will tell. Tim cannot wait to hear what time has to say.
