Harvest in Alberta nears completion
Published 5 days, 19 hours ago
Description
Alberta's 2026 harvest is nearing completion, with 88% of major crops now off the field. Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Tara Sawyer says despite delays caused by slow crop maturity, rain, frost, and snow, producers have made significant progress in recent weeks as conditions improved. Sawyer says crop yields are expected to be above average, particularly in southern and central Alberta. She says recent favourable weather has given producers more opportunities to get crops off the fields, although conditions have slowed progress in some areas. Looking ahead to winter and the 2027 growing season, there are positive signs across much of the province. Surface and subsurface soil moisture levels remain above historical averages, while pasture conditions continue to exceed seasonal norms. Fall-seeded crops are also off to a strong start, with conditions well above historical averages heading into winter. Sawyer thanked Alberta's farmers for helping continue to feed Albertans, supporting their communities, and helping grow the province.
