The Forest That Needs an Otter (Biology Level 8)
Description
We're going to work out who that animal is and why a forest needs it. To do that we'll zoom out step by step, from one animal to the whole forest, and then find out what happened when people took that animal away.
If you wanted to save the forest, your first instinct would be to protect the kelp, and that's the wrong answer. The right answer is to protect a furry animal that eats urchins. The listener can now state the five words (organism aside: habitat, population, community, ecosystem), sort any factor into biotic or abiotic, and explain interdependence using a chain they'll remember.
