Segment: Complacency KILLS Passion - You Must Be Intentional Every Day

Description

You can do everything right. You can wake up next to the same person for 30 years. But if you're not intentional about keeping the passion alive, you'll end up living alongside them instead of living with them.

In this deeply personal, beautifully vulnerable episode of Unbroken Podcast, host Richard Akita sits down with Rami Osafo, veteran broadcaster, DJ, and radio legend, for a conversation that will challenge everything you think you know about what it means to stay married for 30 years, how a stammering, painfully shy teenager became a voice on the radio, and the uncomfortable truth that after three decades you can still wake up and wonder who is this woman in my bed.

Rami holds nothing back. He breaks down why keeping passion alive after 30 years requires intentionality because complacency pushes you into a groove that's not always a nice groove, why his answer to how do you manage 30 years with the same woman is honestly I don't know it's the grace of God, and the one prayer he prays all the time: help me to understand this woman better even after 30 years. He reveals why his wife is like the peace of God because she passes all understanding, how sometimes she will do things that make him think where is she from what's she doing in my bed and then he looks again and it's his wife, and the moment he realized that left to his shyness and stammering and lack of confidence he might never have married her. He also explains why she went back to her friends the day they met and told them I've met the man I'm going to marry, how his proposal was sitting down a year into the relationship and saying so are we going to get married and she said oh I thought so, and the one person who pushed him to finally get married after five years: his mother of blessed memory who said you keep saying you don't have money but you start we'll find the money from somebody.

This isn't just a love story. It's a masterclass in understanding how radio forced a stammerer to become a better speaker, why the first day at Joy FM in 1995 he hardly spoke because his hand would shake so much before touching the mic button that people would think he was an alcoholic, and how the microphone forced him to speak better because it's only you and the microphone and the people listening can't see you or hear you but they are listening. Rami dives into why he's been DJing since he was 18 and is still doing three or four gigs a year not for money but for passion, how the reward of seeing people come up and say I haven't heard that song for 30 years is what keeps him going, and the uncomfortable reality that in secondary school if a nice girl walked into the classroom during a free period his prayer to God would be please don't let her speak to me because if she said hello my name is Ama he'd be stuck trying to say his own name. He also tackles why he loves to read especially fiction because there's too much wahala going on in the world, how movies and music are his escape, and the one thing he tells people when they ask him to describe his wife in one sentence: my wife is like the peace of God because she passes all understanding.

If you're married, wondering how to keep the passion alive after decades, or asking yourself whether happiness is something you chase or something you build through intentionality and prayer, this conversation will give you the clarity, the language, and the courage to stop living alongside your partner and start living with them.
