Ep 88 | The Key to Confidence: Chariots, Horses & What We Really Trust
Description
Where does your confidence actually come from?
For most of us, the honest answer includes our preparation, our resources, our technology, and the people in our corner. Those things are good, but they all have limits. In Psalm 20:7, David draws the line clearly: "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God."
In this episode of Wisdom Calling, Bobo takes a conversational tour through seven psalms (20, 40, 44, 46, 62, 118 and 121) that all ask the same question. Picking up from Psalm 49's warning about trusting wealth, we explore what we're tempted to trust, where lasting confidence really comes from, and what it produces in the life of a leader.
In this episode:
- Why tools, technology and "chariots" make good instruments but lousy gods
- The danger of borrowing confidence from the most confident person in the room
- The discipline of remembrance, and why gratitude is the soil confidence grows in
- What it means that God is "a very present help in trouble"
- Psalm 121 for every leader lying awake at 3 a.m.
- Three practices for this week: Audit. Remember. Saturate.
This episode is based on Devotional 68, "The Key to Confidence," in Volume 3 of the Wisdom Calling devotional series.
