Episode 25: What's Behind the Conduct?

Before reacting to conflict, have you ever stopped to ask what's really behind someone's behaviour?

In this episode of Sister-in-Law: The Paralegal Journey, I follow up on my conversation with retired Ontario Provincial Prosecutor Vera McGuire and explore one question she raised that stayed with me: "What's behind their conduct?"

Conflict is part of working in the legal profession, but how we respond to it can make all the difference. We explore why mediation training isn't just about settling disputes and how legal assistants, paralegals, and other legal professionals can use conflict resolution skills in everyday workplace situations.

I share four practical skills to help you navigate difficult conversations. Because understanding someone's behaviour doesn't mean excusing it. Sometimes it's about gathering the information you need before deciding how to respond.

❓ Reflection Question: When conflict shows up in my work, am I responding only to what I can see, or am I trying to understand what's happening underneath it?

🎧 Listen now and discover why asking one more question might change the way you approach conflict.
