Description
Today’s reading covers 1 Samuel 19 and Proverbs 20:11–20. The reflection follows Saul’s repeated attempts to kill David — Jonathan talks his father into sparing David for a time, but Saul soon turns on him again. David escapes with the help of his wife Michal and the prophet Samuel, and in a strange turn, Saul’s own messengers end up prophesying instead of capturing him. The discussion points to God’s sovereign control beneath David’s escape, even as Saul acts out of pride and violence.
Proverbs 20:11–20 covers honest conduct, diligence, wise counsel, and the surpassing value of knowing God compared to gold. The episode applies that comparison to finding comfort in Christ bearing the punishment we deserved, and draws a parenting insight from the idea that a child’s conduct reveals what’s really in their heart.
