October 23, 2026 - 1 Samuel 18 & Proverbs 20:1-10

Published 2 days, 20 hours ago
Description

Today’s reading covers 1 Samuel 18 and Proverbs 20:1–10. The reflection follows Jonathan’s bond with David as it deepens while Saul’s jealousy grows as the people celebrate David’s victories over Goliath and the Philistines. Saul makes repeated attempts on David’s life, including throwing a spear at him, and offers his daughters in marriage under dangerous conditions, yet David succeeds at every turn, deepening Saul’s fear because the Lord is with David.

Proverbs 20:1–10 warns against drunkenness, quarreling, and laziness, while stressing the value of understanding, integrity, and honest dealing, and noting how rare true faithfulness is. The discussion connects the integrity verses to raising children, avoiding needless conflict, and building others up, and ties the rarity of human faithfulness back to God’s unchanging faithfulness.
