Ang Understanding Cryptography: A Textbook for Students and Practitioners ni Christof Paar at Jan Pelzl ay isang aklat-aralin tungkol sa applied cryptography, o paggamit ng kriptograpiya sa aktuwal na mga sistema ng impormasyon. Hindi ito nakatuon sa lihim na mensahe lamang, kundi sa mga mekanismong nagpoprotekta sa browser, email, mobile phone, network, embedded device, at mga serbisyong digital. Inilalahad nito ang mahahalagang konsepto ng seguridad, mula sa encryption hanggang pagpapatunay ng mensahe at pamamahala ng susi. Saklaw nito ang symmetric encryption gaya ng AES, public-key cryptography gaya ng RSA at elliptic-curve cryptography, pati digital signatures, hash functions, MACs, certificates, at PKI.
