Micah Hyde is sounding the alarm about the Buffalo Bills defense! The former Bills safety believes communication is a major problem in Buffalo's secondary, and defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard has some difficult decisions to make during the bye week.

The Buffalo Bills are 5-1 following their 33-30 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, but their defensive struggles continue to raise concerns about the team's Super Bowl aspirations.

On today's Bills HIT, we break down Hyde's comments from his appearance on Eric Wood's Centered on Buffalo podcast and explain why Buffalo's defensive problems could become even more costly in the playoffs.

Hyde emphasized the importance of communication, preparation and understanding defensive assignments.

And Buffalo's secondary has provided plenty of examples of what happens when those responsibilities break down.

From coverage problems against the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams to Trey Tucker getting behind the defense against Las Vegas, the Bills have struggled to prevent explosive passing plays.

But is this simply a personnel problem, or is Leonhard asking his players to do too much?

We examine three important adjustments Buffalo should consider during the bye week.

First, Leonhard needs to simplify defensive communication and make sure every player understands his responsibilities.

Second, Buffalo must identify its most reliable secondary combination.

Christian Benford remains an important piece, but David Igbinosun is earning additional opportunities while Maxwell Hairston continues developing.

Jalen Kilgore has also contributed, C.J. Gardner-Johnson faces a suspension, and veteran Tre'Davious White has returned to the organization.

Finally, Buffalo needs greater accountability throughout its defense.

With Josh Allen and the offense continuing to produce, the Bills cannot afford repeated defensive breakdowns that allow opponents to get back into games.

The bye week gives Leonhard an opportunity to evaluate his system, simplify assignments and establish a more consistent defensive identity.

Is Micah Hyde right about Buffalo's biggest problem? Can Jim Leonhard fix the Bills defense before the playoffs?
