Description
Every company has an AI vision. Very few have AI receipts. Last week Manulife showed its receipts: three hundred million dollars in measured AI value, with a target of one billion by 2027. Stephen explains why the way it counts matters more than the total, then runs a lightning round of the week's other AI stories.
In this episode, Stephen Forte covers:
- Manulife's AI receipts. The insurer launched an enterprise AI platform and broke its AI value into four buckets: lower expenses, new revenue, less fraud and growth absorption, which means the business grew and the payroll did not.
- This sounds familiar. Why a number like growth absorption only shows up if you did the unglamorous work first: knowing what each piece of work costs, turning it into hard savings and deciding before the pilot what to do with the freed capacity. Stephen calls that a Bill of Work.
- One shared platform. Why pulling approvals and safety checks into one place beats six departments buying six chatbots, and why a finance-edited press release is easier to believe.
- Your homework. One question before Friday: which of our AI projects shows up in the financials, and in which line?
- Lightning round: the strangest disappointment. Anthropic reported 16.8 billion dollars in quarterly revenue, up 45 percent, and investors are reportedly trimming valuation hopes anyway.
- Lightning round: bookkeeping to bodyguards. SoftBank is reportedly in talks to buy Allied Universal for about 18 billion dollars to roll out AI security robots.
- Lightning round: AI has office hours. DeepSeek went down for nearly five hours and handed out a week of credit.
- Lightning round: the robolimousine. Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA expanded their self-driving partnership, with no launch date.
- Lightning round: know your audience. Bluesky's AI app Attie became one of the most blocked accounts on the platform.
