On a warm July evening in 1984, Holmes sits among his re-indexed commonplace books in Baker Street while Watson loses a chess problem to him from across the room. Then an inspector of the Castlemoyne Garda station arrives, fresh from the Irish plane, with news that Kilmarren House in County Wicklow was robbed the night before. The housekeeper, Peg, has asked for Holmes by name and is waiting in the hall below. Holmes protests that he has no standing in Ireland, but Watson points out that the family did not send for him; their servant did. Next day, at Kilmarren, the guide, Fenella, walks them through the saloon wall by wall, naming each painting that hung there and is now only a brass hook and a darker square on the velvet. Holmes notes that not one hook is bent. Peg, forty years in the house and pensioned off in ten weeks, can hardly speak of what the old master said to her that morning. Fenella has already pinned a card reading House Closed to the door, and with it goes her living. Why would the owner of the stolen pictures look at his oldest servant and ask what she was paid?

From the series Sherlock Holmes โ€” The New Cases: a real crime of the 1980s reimagined as a classic Sherlock Holmes radio mystery, performed by a full multi-voice AI cast, with sound design and a light score that stays under the story.

Loosely inspired by a real event of the 1980s. All names, characters, dialogue and events are fictional; the words, actions, motives and private lives of every character โ€” including the country-house servants, the village tradesmen, the investigators and the police โ€” are invented for drama, and so is the solution of the mystery. Where a real city, state, public body or newspaper is mentioned, its part in this story is invented; the country house, the village and its police station named in it are invented too. This is a work of fiction, not a factual account of any real person or institution. No real person is portrayed, and no real individual, company or organisation is accused of any act shown here.

Setting: London and Castlemoyne โ€” July 1984.

Writer v2.7 โ€” the studio's newest writing process: the plot is planned and checked by an AI story editor, then each act is drafted with the whole story in view and edited before a word is voiced โ€” and then cast and performed with our new casting and voice direction.
