Back to EpisodesRecruiters Are Out, Tacticians Are In: Is Talent No Longer Enough? | Punt or Go For It, Week 7
Description
Mike Wade thinks Indiana, the defending national champion, is the most unimpressive team in the AP Top 10, and he says Ohio State is about to expose them. Do Mark Franzen and Darren Steadman go for it or punt?
Mike plays the overanxious quarterback, Mark and Darren are the head coaches, and every call is a punt (bad take) or a go for it (great take). Week 7's four takes:
1. Boise State is the Group of Six's playoff team, and it's theirs to lose.
2. Indiana is the most unimpressive team in the AP Top 10.
3. No conference has more than one serious national title contender.
4. The future of college football belongs to tacticians, not recruiters.
Along the way: a Pac-12 flex-scheduling wrinkle, what Oregon State's rise means for Boise, why Alabama might be a fifth contender, and why Mike thinks the NIL and portal era is changing which coaches win. The episode opens with a pumpkin beer tangent, so skip ahead if you're here for football.
