🎭 Directed Edition — every role cast for this story and every line performed with full voice direction.

On a wet Sunday evening in March 1966, Holmes and Watson are interrupted at Baker Street by Miss Avery, a young secretary who has flown in from Rome that same day. Her employer, Mr Farid, was murdered the night before, and she wants Holmes on the morning aeroplane. Holmes doubts that a private Englishman can be of any use to a jealous foreign police force, until Watson points out one odd thing about how she has travelled. They fly at first light. In Rome, photographers besiege the building where Farid kept his offices, and its concierge, Pasqualina, bolts the door behind them and begs to be kept out of the newspapers. Upstairs, Inspector Tedesco of the Questura shows them the sealed private room. Four shots were fired at close range, and acid was thrown over the dead man's face, so that even his mother cannot name him at the morgue. Two people are in custody, a cotton merchant, Signor Karim, and his wife, Signora Nadia, taken together at Naples. Yet each swears the other entered the room alone. Miss Avery opens her appointment diary for Saturday, and Holmes studies the entry for seven o'clock. Two cells, one dead man and two sworn stories that cannot both be true: which of them is telling the truth?

From the series Sherlock Holmes — The New Cases: a real crime of the 1960s reimagined as a classic Sherlock Holmes radio mystery, performed by a full multi-voice AI cast, with sound design and a light score that stays under the story.

Loosely inspired by a real event of the 1960s. All names, characters, dialogue and events are fictional; the words, actions, motives and private lives of every character — including the secretary, the concierge, the merchant and his wife, the investigators and the police — are invented for drama, and so is the solution of the mystery. Where a real city, state, public body or newspaper is mentioned, its part in this story is invented; the office building, the café and the police headquarters named in it are invented too. This is a work of fiction, not a factual account of any real person or institution. No real person is portrayed, and no real individual, company or organisation is accused of any act shown here.

Setting: London and Rome — March 1966.

Writer v2.7 — the studio's newest writing process: the plot is planned and checked by an AI story editor, then each act is drafted with the whole story in view and edited before a word is voiced — and then cast and performed with our new casting and voice direction.
