The Kids Are Alright, with Kiki & Friends

Season 4 Episode 168 Published 7 hours ago
Description

What happens when the next generation takes over the podcast? You get honest opinions, middle-school stories, some laughs, and a few conversations that might make the adults stop and think.

In Episode 169, Kiki and her friends Izzy, Rose, and V take over Yhea Foo Nah Foo and bring their own questions, experiences, and perspectives to the microphone.

We get into the realities of starting seventh grade, dealing with mean kids, figuring out friendships, and trying to make sense of a world where so much of growing up happens online. The girls also share their thoughts on TikTok, online bullying, mental health, and why having people you can actually talk to matters.

Then we get into AI. Can an AI friend be helpful when you need advice or someone to talk to? What happens when AI impersonates real people? And what about artists and animators who spend countless hours creating something original, only to see AI-generated work competing with them?

One thing that stood out to me was how much thought these girls put into the subjects adults are still trying to figure out themselves. They don't agree on everything, and that's part of what makes the conversation interesting.

We talk about seventh grade, friendship, bullying, social media, mental health, AI companions, AI-generated art, and the appeal of going back to simpler technology like iPods and Nintendo 3DS.

Maybe the best thing we can do for the next generation is give them room to speak—and take the time to listen.
