Pet Sematary Read-Along #7 | Chapters 31–35: Death, Grief & Dark Secrets

Description

We've reached the end of Part One of Stephen King's Pet Sematary, and Chapters 31–35 bring some of the most emotionally difficult moments of the read-along so far.

Norma's death forces Jud to confront the loss of his wife of sixty years, while Rachel finally reveals the disturbing circumstances surrounding her sister Zelda's death. Her story raises new questions about grief, guilt, and why death has always been such a difficult subject for her.

Meanwhile, Church continues to behave strangely, and I'm beginning to question whether he's a danger to the Creed family or whether there's something else happening that we don't understand yet.

In this episode:

  • Norma's death and its impact on Jud
  • Rachel's traumatic memories of Zelda
  • The different ways people experience grief
  • Church's increasingly unsettling behavior
  • My questions about Jud's connection to the burial ground
  • Predictions for what might happen in Part Two

As always, I'm experiencing Pet Sematary for the first time, without having seen any of the movies. We're using six recurring questions to build an evolving notebook of observations, theories, and predictions throughout the novel.

Next episode: Chapters 36–40, the beginning of Part Two.
