Who Invented Invention? | The Invention of Invention

Published 9 hours ago
Description
What if invention began with finding?

Settle into The Invention of Invention, a thoughtful sleep story about how people learned to make new things on purpose, and how they decided who should get the credit.

In Florence in 1421, Brunelleschi offered to reveal the secret of a boat in exchange for protection against copying. Six hundred years later, no drawing is known to survive, and the boat's shape remains uncertain.

Tonight we travel through the workshops, ideas and records that helped shape invention.

From China's early paper and clay movable type to al-Jazari's carefully drawn machines, the story follows people finding new ways to make, record and share what they knew.

James Watt finds an answer while walking on Glasgow Green, then spends years getting it to work. Margaret Knight brings her drawings, models and witnesses to prove that a paper-bag machine is hers.

At Menlo Park, invention becomes the work of a whole team. A simple candle puzzle shows how easily a familiar use can hide another possibility. And a disputed turmeric patent asks what happens when old knowledge is claimed as something new.

The workshop can rest now. The folio is closed, the river carries on, and whatever is half-made on the bench can wait until morning.

Let the story keep you company as you settle down to rest.

This sleep story is told slowly and gently for sleep, relaxation and quiet late-night listening.
