Boston, November 1950. At twenty minutes to six on a Tuesday morning, a sacristan unlocks a chapel vestry and finds a dead man sitting in her chair. By nine o'clock, nineteen strangers have come to police headquarters and confessed to killing him. Nell Harrow, the policewoman at the basement desk for the cases nobody else will file, counts their weapons. Jonah, the man with no pulse who hears every heartbeat in a room, counts their hearts. The numbers will not agree.
From the series Special Matters, the first of the Mono Noir Super Series: a continuing, episodic superhero audio drama in which the same characters return, grow and carry what happened into every new case. This is S01E02; the story continues in order. About fifty-three minutes, performed by a full multi-voice AI cast with an original score and sound design.
An original work of fiction. All names, characters and dialogue are fictional; the words, actions, motives and private lives of every character, including the police, the clergy and the doctors, are invented for drama. Where a real city, neighborhood, street, church, newspaper or public body is mentioned, its part in this story is invented; the Cocoanut Grove fire of 1942 is a real event, remembered here with respect, and no character in this story is a real person. This is a work of fiction, not a factual account of any real person or institution.
Setting: Boston, November 1950 — with Bay Village and Berkeley Street.
