London, May 1949. Long past midnight, in a city barely thawed from the cruellest winter anyone can remember, an underwriter from Lloyd's hammers at the Baker Street letter-box. A yacht he insured has been bombed inside a California harbour, the one place yachts are kept so that nothing can wreck them. An alarm clock was wired to the charge, thirty sticks of dynamite never went off, and the owner and his wife are dead. Holmes and Watson cross an ocean and a continent to the waterfront, where the couple's grieving daughter watched the yacht burn from the shore, and where the man from Lloyd's has his own reasons for wanting someone to blame.

From the series Sherlock Holmes — The New Cases: a real 1940s crime reimagined as a classic Sherlock Holmes radio mystery, performed by a full multi-voice AI cast, with sound design and a light original score.

Loosely inspired by a real California crime of the 1940s. All character names, dialogue and events are fictional; the words, actions, motives and private lives of every character — including the victims' family and those close to them, the witnesses, the investigators, the police and the insurers — are invented for drama, and so is the solution of the mystery. It is not the outcome of the real case, in which no one was ever convicted, and no character in this story represents or accuses any real person. This is a work of fiction, not a factual account of any real person or institution.

Setting: London and Newport Beach, California — May 1949.

Directed Edition: the same story, newly performed line by line with a directing pass for every voice: each actor's delivery is chosen for the moment, from a dry aside to a held breath.

Writer v2.7 — the studio's newest writing process: the plot is planned and checked by an AI story editor, then each act is drafted with the whole story in view and edited before a word is voiced.
