where do you even start with illustrating a story

the way I approached it was

kind of I'm just gonna approach this as if I'm a fan

and I'm just going to

draw what I see when I read the book

sort of felt to me like

I was trying to do some sort of fan art

if I were to draw say Harry Potter

where would I start

you start out with some basic shapes and then

whittle down the shape

into a kind of something that resembles a head

or something that resembles a building

and then you start adding features
