Whalefall opened in US cinemas on October 16, 2026, released by 20th Century Studios. Directed by Brian Duffield and based on Daniel Kraus's 2023 novel, the survival thriller follows diver Jay Gardiner, who searches for his father's remains and is swallowed whole by a sperm whale, leaving him about an hour of air to escape. Reviews have been mostly positive, with critics praising Austin Abrams and the whale sequences, though the most common criticism is that family flashbacks slow the momentum.
